
Benzene News"Couple Files Benzene Suit" August 20, 2007 An Oklahoma couple has filed a suit against the BP Amoco Corp., along with 38 other oil companies. The suit claims the companies are knowingly manufacturing and distributing benzene and other toxic chemicals to the unaware public. The Allegations Gregory and Kellie McFarland claim that from 1960 to 2005, Gregory was exposed to “dangerous levels of toxic and carcinogenic chemicals.” The petition states that he was exposed to benzene, as well as other toxic solvents. Court documents claim, "McFarland's exposures to these toxic and carcinogenic chemicals and substances, distributed, marketed, and manufactured by defendants…was a legal cause of his illness." The suit names Texaco, Shell and Motiva as the defendants and faults 39 others with negligence. Seeking Compensation The couple is suing for past and future mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement, pain and medical expenses.
