"Benzene Lawyers Request Sanctions in Lawsuit"

August 6, 2007

A group of benzene lawyers from New York are requesting that the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York impose sanctions against Ashland, Inc.

Ashland, Inc. manufacturers benzene and is being accused of failing to disclose important information pertaining to a lawsuit filed by a man who recently passed away.

The Lawsuit

An acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) lawsuit was filed against Ashland by John Nelson due to his exposure to benzene throughout his employment at the plant.

Nelson reportedly worked for the company for 19 months and during this time inhaled benzene and developed myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), which is a severe blood disorder that eventually transformed into AML.

Wrongful Concealment

The lawyers are now claiming that Ashland, Inc. wrongfully concealed from Nelson and his attorneys that they had hired 12 scientists to estimate the exact amount of benzene Nelson was exposed to while working.

Ashland reportedly failed to report the involvement of any additional parties in their estimates.

In a statement made by the lawyers they explained that Ashland, Inc’s concealment shows a blatant disrespect for the plaintiff and the judicial system.
