Benzene News"Goodyear Plant Questioned" April 28, 2008 A recent investigation found that three former workers of a Goodyear plant in Nebraska were all diagnosed with leukemia and died within two years of one another. Two other former workers from the same plant have reportedly also been diagnosed with cancer and all fighting for their lives. Cases of Leukemia Bill and Patricia Meyers have both worked at the plant for 30 years. Only a few years ago, Patricia was diagnosed with AML, leukemia and both her and her husband believed the illness was the result of her exposure to benzene while at work. Workplace Exposure The Meyers claimed that benzene was used in several cleaning products at Goodyear and that Pat was required to work with and around these products for years. The illness eventually took Pat’s life, only two year after Mel Vondra, who worked with Pat at Goodyear, alsodied of leukemia. Lawsuit Filed In a lawsuit filed earlier this year, several oil companies were accused of causing the deaths of the former employees.
