"Homeowners Exposed to Benzene Take Action"

May 15, 2008

Homeowners living near the Egyptian Manufacturing Co. in Tennessee are preparing to take legal action if pollution surrounding their site isn’t cleaned up.

The community says they are giving the paint manufacturers three months before they go to federal court regarding the issue.

Neighborhood Concerned

Several families living near the manufacturing plant have voiced their concern and worry that their families are being exposed to harmful carcinogens like benzene.

According to reports, residents have been at risk due to the continuous exposure flowing from Liberty Creek and the Harpeth River.

Residents Seek Legal Guidance

Elizabeth Murphy, an Environmental attorney in the state, says that several residents have already approached her concerned about benzene exposure.

“Given the nature of the substances being released, my clients and their children experience an ongoing risk to their health and well-being,” says Murphy.

Murphy has already notified Egyptian Lacquer of the possible lawsuits they could face if the pollution and releasing of harmful toxins continues.

Benzene has already been discovered in the groundwater ground water in the Daniels Drive neighborhood, claim reports.
