"$800M Lawsuit Claims DuPont Operated Illegal Plant"

March 27, 2008

According to reports, DuPont is facing an $800 million lawsuit claiming they operated an illegal chemical plant for four years.

The manufacturing plant was supposedly located in Texas and caused a mass amount of pollution while exposing nearby residents to high levels of benzene.

Invista Reveals Plant

Invista, which is a fibers and resins business, is the company accusing DuPont of its wrongdoing and wants them to pay for the correcting of the past environmental health and safety violations.

In addition, they believe DuPont should pay an extra few million dollars for putting their employees and the public “at significant health risk.”

Dangers of Benzene

Extensive studies have been conducted on benzene and the conclusions have left researchers concerned about the future health problems that those who have been exposed, will face.

“Breathing high levels of benzene can result in death, while high levels can cause drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heart rate, and headaches,” says the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

According to the agency, eating or drinking foods with high levels of benzene can lead to the following health complications:
