"Benzene Found in Colorado Spring"

June 30, 2008

Recent reports claim that benzene was recently found in spring water used by a cabin near Parachute, Colorado.

Benzene can be extremely harmful to those exposed to it and can cause life threatening illnesses like leukemia.

Companies Given Notice of Violation

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) has issued a Notice of Alleged Violation to four energy companies.

The notice was reportedly issued after tests confirmed that benzene was present in the water outside the western Colorado cabin.

According to reports, two of the companies cited by the COGCC are currently investigating the source of the contamination, while a third company has not responded and the fourth one does not have a list number to contact.

New Rules Debated

Oil and gas supporters are supposedly in the midst of a debate with the COGCC over new rules that have been proposed for exploration and production on state land.

The debate involves the new rules effects on the local wildlife and local residents are growing more concerned with this recent benzene news.
