"Benzene Suit Filed in Arizona" September 10, 2007 An Arizona couple has filed a suit against Arco and 19 other petrochemical companies for the manufacturing and distribution of benzene. The couple claims the corporations have been exposing the unaware public to harmful chemicals and are the cause of illnesses like leukemia. Man Exposed to Benzene According to the petition filed by Bobby and Nellye Hall, Bobby was wrongfully exposed to “dangerous levels” of benzene for several years. "Hall's exposure to toxic and carcinogenic chemicals and substances, distributed, marketed and manufactured by defendants…was a legal cause of his illness," says the suit. Suit Allegations The suit also names Exxon, Shell, and Valero among the defendants. All 20 defendants are being accused of negligence, strict liability, misrepresentation and conspiracy. Couple Seeks Compensation The Hall's are suing for past, future and mental anguish, along with physical impairment and disfigurement. They are also looking to receive compensation for loss of earning capacity and medical expenses. They are demanding a trial by jury.
