"41 Companies Accused in Benzene Lawsuit"

July 21, 2008

A couple living in Texas recently filed a lawsuit against 41 different companies for benzene exposure.

The plaintiffs claim the companies failed to effectively test their products before marketing them which as a result put them at risk.

Man Develops Cancer

Tommy Hebert, who worked at E.I. DuPont de Nemours for several years, developed cancer shortly after retiring.

He believes that the form of cancer he is now living with, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, is the result of his exposure to benzene during his career.

Couple Takes Action in Search of Justice

Hebert and his wife Mary filed the suit against AMCO and 40 other companies, including ExxonMobil, Texaco and ARCO.

“During his employment, Hebert was needlessly exposed to benzene and benzene containing products. As a result of such exposures, Mr. Hebert developed a deadly cancer known as CLL," state court papers.

The suit claims the companies have strict liability and were negligent towards their employees.

The couple is seeking compensation for punitive damages, mental anguish and medical expenses.
