"Benzene Suit Filed Against 27 Corporations"

October 15, 2007

A suit was recently filed by the estate of a man who claims he was exposed to benzene during his employment at various companies.

The suit names 27 corporations as defendants.

Lawsuit Claims Benzene Exposure

According to the suit, Robert Peckham worked for companies such as Triad Industrial Cleaning, where he cleaned benzene and benzene-containing petroleum.

The suit claims that Peckham's exposure to the harmful carcinogen was foreseeable and should have been prevented by the various defendants.

It also claims that the defendants should have known that benzene was toxic and poisonous when continually inhaled and absorbed.

Seeking Compensation

The 10-count suit reportedly seeks compensation in excess of $500,000 for damages and attorney fees.

Peckham's wife, Shirley, also claims that she has been deprived of the companionship, love and service of her husband due to his exposure.

Estate Accuses Corporations

The estate claims that the defendants failed to exercise care and caution for their workers by:

  • Including benzene in their products when other substitutions were available
  • Including benzene in their products knowing of the potential harm it could inflict upon employees
